XP Question about Metaphor

In Kent Beck's book "Extreme Programming Explained", he talks about
metaphor. But the brief examples given there did not enlighten me.
Whayt is the importance of a metaphor, how should I find one for a
project? What are the guidelines for this? Can somebody illustrate
with a few practical examples?
