Smalltalk health

Periodically, I get asked how many Smalltalkers there are. Well, I
can't answer that in any definitive way. However, I can say this:

-- We have had 24,000 registrations for Cincom Smalltalk
non-commercial since Septmber 2002

-- We have had 1987 registrations in the last 30 days (as of the time
of this posting)

And bear in mind, that's only for VisualWorks and ObjectStudio. I
have no idea what's going on with Dolphin, Smalltalk/X, etc. Nor do I
have any idea how many downloads of VAST nc there have been (anyone
from IBM care to chime in?) For that matter, there are the open
source alternatives like Squeak and Gnu ST - very active, but I have
no idea how active.

All in all, there's a lot of Smalltalking going on, regardless of what
some analysts seem to think...
