Which, i concur, is not at all uncommon. Therein lies a substantial
part of the problem. To the data management-trained (an ubiquitous
breed), "Data management" quickly becomes a fuzzy hodgepodge that
effectively engulfs most of computing. When the only tool you have
is a hammer, etc. As a result, many are genuinely convinced that is
sensible to piggyback as much of their IT needs as can be on their
DBMSes. Mindboggling consultancy and licensing fees await them.
