Why is that raining on his parade? He came up with something he thought was
a great idea, and you just gave him an example indicating that he was right.
Perhaps you think he'll find it disappointing that he wasn't the first to
come up with something like that? Perhaps, but that's not a particularly
healthy frame of mind for an inventor. A better attitude is to be happy to
get partial confirmation that your thinking in general is on the right
track. And also, to wonder whether this specific idea was implemented in the
best way, or whether something can be improved.
