I would be delighted to see those references, as it's a field I'm currently
quite interested in.

I'd also like to point out that I not only not think badly about Ron, but
that based on years of reading his posts (sadly I don't know him
personally), I don't think that he was going against you.

Communication is hard, and often the way we interprete a message says at
least as much about ourselves as it says about the sender. Doubly so in
written communication, where a whole lot of communication channels is
missing that we use in face to face communication. That's why I find it an
effective practice to assume the best and try to interprete every post as if
the sender had the best intentions.

The only references I can give you are the german works of Schulz von Thun
("Miteinander Reden") and the sections "Modalities in Communication" and
"The Impact of Removing Modalities" from Cockburn's "Agile Software
Development".
