Quoting a geocities web page in an academic publication is a very, very bad
idea.
Academic publications should cite peer-reviewed sources. B. Jacob's writings
have been _relentlessly_ peer reviewed, and have failed even a superficial
check for credibility.
OO is not "bad", just as "if" statements are not "bad". Both can be used
wrong, and there's copious literature describing failed projects that
purported to use OO.

Please report here if you find that Bryce Jacobs has ever once gotten paid
for his writings!

That's the thing. People who used 'if' statements for 40 years can generally
find something useful to say about them. However, the material you cite is
not even a "subjective opinion". That leaks out occassionally, but what you
generally find is a relentless quest to stir up negative attention.
I detest Perl (with more than enough experience to back my opinion), but I
don't post all day to Perl newsgroups, telling them all to abandon their
language. That endeavor would not lend my experience any credibility!
