Yes. One could argue that XMI was largely defined for transforming UML models and providing plug & play tools interoperability when using UML-based development.
It is commonly used by MDA-related tools. For example, Pathfinder's PathMATE tool can generate full C, C++, and/or Java code from a UML model in any drawing tool -- provided the drawing tool is MDA-complaint, the model was constructed within the constraints of a translation MDA profile, and employs XMI as an interface to its model repository.
