I "use" it only in the sense that the UML tool that I use (Posieden) exports
and maintains its models in XMI. So far I have been fairly pleased with it
and can see that it has some real potential. It's really alot about
implementation.
But the key, of course, is that everyone agree to the same standard.
Remember, XMI (and XML) is "nothing but text".
That is it's greatest strength AND its greatest weakness.
