Now you seem to be arguing my point. Yes I would prefer that too.
So let's say I agree to do a bug fix:

Option 1: I charge a fixed sum for that. Assuming I can do it at all
it is in my direct interest to do it as fast and quickly as possible and
move on to the next job.

Option 2: I'm getting my pay-check based on the hours spent. Then
it is in my direct interest to drag my heals and be as slow as I possibly
can.

Don't you agree?

Not sure what you mean by "sticky legal ones" but yes,
car maintanance can and does work on a [perhaps negative]
bonus system. You've never moved to another garage 'cause
you didn't like the service in the last one (including the timing)?
