Re: Everything

Responding to Gerardvignes...

Dr. Lahman,

No PhD here; just an MS -- and it was "without specification" because I only took one course in the granting department!

[The Naval Architecture department wanted to change its warmonger image and renamed itself Ocean Engineering. Unfortunately no one on the faculty knew anything except battleship building. So a friend on the faculty asked me to design and teach a course on the "Evolution and Utilization of Marine Resources". (Back then I was a geophysicist by training and had a decade's experience in various swamps, jungles, tundras, and deserts -- nobody ever sends you to Paris to look at rocks.) In return they paid for the degree time and I used the opportunity to switch occupations into business and Operations Research.]

If I am following your arguments, then I should be looking at
Generative Programming topics:

Am I correct in this assumption?

I think they are very closely related, but I am pretty much limited to the Executive Summary level. Both develop applications at a very high level of abstraction and make heavy use of "canned" implementations.

In effect GP employs an IDE that allows one to cobble together applications using predefined, generic elements. (One can also create fundamental elements.) HPVEE does a similar thing for creating electronic test programs and COM developers also build applications that way.

At that simplistic level the main difference is that the translation approaches employ a formal programming language (UML+AAL) rather than LEGGO-like construction within an IDE.

There is nothing wrong with me that could
not be cured by a capful of Drano.
