Sorry for replying to the reply, I don't have the original post.

When I was somewhere around that age (probably 8 or 9), I wanted to
learn game programming as well. I started out with a visual programming
tool called Stagecast Creator, which was very good for me at the time. I
would highly recommend it for anyone in that age range who would like to
learn programming.
