Why Java? Several languages are much more powerful than this one,
so I would be interested in arguments for Java...

Over Java? Could you explain why?

Perl and Visual Basic are actually more powerful than many other
languages, but again, there are more powerful languages than those
anyway. Why not simply use the most powerful language you can find?
