As I have indicated in another thread, I have stopped responding
to anything EGN says ... I post from google, and therefore cannot plonk.

(I will respond to any post of his though, that makes even the
slightest movement towards sanity).

I've shown some of his code from DQA humungo-thread to students.
His code has the beneficial effect of shocking a student into
following good guidlines.

Initially, they thought it was alright, then they were asked to
re-code for more readability, then for more speed; lastly, just
to "make it better" in the best way they could. His code has had
a lasting(I hope) effect in that they now know what not to do,
*and* why not to do it. no lecture I could have given them would
possibly have got the :why" point through so well :-)
