Hiya. Just a few nuggets of programmer's slang in use around my way which
have not made it into the jargon file. Am I the only one who uses these? Or
do you have different names for these concepts?
WhippyWare
A quick and dirty piece of software written to run on a new embedded
system, allowing the electronics engineers to operate the hardware before
the software is ready. Often combined with a friendly Visual basic
application.
Optiphobia
The fear of switching on a compiler's optimisation option. (Typically
found amoungst embedded software developers.)
malloc-mania
A program which uses a lot of dynamic allocation. Also where dynamic
allocation is indirect, such as C++ with STL.
Breadcrumbs and butterbeans
Unneeded inputs into a fairly complex process.
Like Mornington crescent
An incredibly complex protocol or instruction set, such that it defies
analysis.
Many thanks.
Bill, all of the above.
