It is a cogent analysis. But protectionist panic is hardly necessary -
the US and other developed economies are hardly suffering disaster, even
as China booms and other underdeveloped economies hope to follow suit.

The US has less to lose than most - the dollar could drop to half its
current value if it had to, which would almost certainly break the grip
of China for one, and considerably boost competitiveness overall.

Furthermore, so long as the value of IP is maintained - and I have
little doubt it will be, despite the wishes of certain idiotic types who
are common on usenet - the US and Europe have much to trade in what will
ultimately constitute the larger part of economic activity.

[Of course if you want to see your granny picking through a trash heap,
join EFF or a similar group today. Let them make record players in
Shanghai, and play for free to help them sell. Heh, it's not as if you
had a job to go to...]
