Can someone suggest a book that explains how to write a monitor program
for a single board computer?
I guess there might be three kinds of books: (a) books that explain in
general how to think about writing such a program for an unspecified
SBC; (b) books that explain in detail how to write one for a particular
(by now unavailable or unaffordable) SBC; (c) books that explain nothing
but give a complete listing of a monitor for a particular SBC.
I have Ciarcia's book on how to build your own Z80 computer which,
as far as the process of writing monitors goes, probably falls into
class (c). I am primarily interested in (a) and can compare it with my
Ciarcia book to keep my feet on the ground. But I would also consider
books of type (b) if they go into enough detail about the design of
the SBC.
Some of the books I have on operating systems mention monitor programs
for SBCs but none of them go beyond mentioning them.
Ignorantly,
Allan Adler
