I'll guess windows. I have given up on free ones, as I have found one
that costs money (but not much) that is outstanding. I've never found
one with even half of the features all rolled up in one package.
Unfortunately, it only runs on windows. Fortunately, it is so good that
if I have a need for such when working on other platforms, it's worth it
to move the data over to Windows to analyze it.
Hex Workshop by BreakPoint Software available from http://www.bpsoft.com
It's under $50 bucks, and has a very reasonable upgrade policy as well.
At least try out the demo, if you really need a full-featured hex editor,
I think you'll find it is very handy.
