They say that once you can ride a bike you won't forget
i've not been programming much lately, just some very lightweight
stuff. I was then involved in generating a couple of Dll's for a
windows program (my little contribution to Dll hell!), just to serve
up some shareable functionality and i concluded that programming is
not like riding a bike!
I don't mean the basics like how to use operators, what an array is
etc, i mean the little details in syntax, especially using c when c is
not your day to day language, for instance, and especially in specific
arena's you don't touch often (__declspec what?!).
anyway, any of you been out of the loop or focussing on one smallish
area for long enough to feel a little rusty when you came to take on
another project? For those of you who need to language-hop now and
then i's imagine it's more common. Lots of quick checks and look ups
in manuals and help files!
Infact programming is, in a limited way, like medicine. You can be a
"programmer" as such, in the way you can be a doctor, but this says
nothing about what specialisms you know and little about whether
you're going to be able to apply yourself to another specialism
easily, or take time out without needing some catchup time.
