how to record music?

I have Dell PC running in XP.
The Dell audio input plugs are microphone and stereo line-in.
I am trying to record my vinyl records and burn it in CD disc.
I am trying to use the "Sound Recorder" but it only give me 60 seconds.

What simple recording program do you recommend and am I doing this
correctly? Thank you.
