What you need is known, generically, as a download manager.
A Web search or a look through the big archive sites like Simtel
will turn up one for your hardware and operating system. Just
be careful not to use one that's polluted with spyware. Any
free utility that's heavily advertised, especially in spam or
banner ads, is suspect. Whenever I go online with Windows, I
use Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy to vet any program I
download, and I use the ZoneAlarm firewall to warn me whenever a
new program wants net access. Note that the firewall included
with Windows XP does _not_ detect outgoing traffic, probably
because Microsoft doesn't want us to notice how often various
bits of Windows want to phone home. Mostly, I try to use Linux
for Internet work.
