What programming language is the most widely used to make viruses?

Hi people.

I have a question. What is the most widely used programming language
to make a virus with? I ask because i am interested in making a virus
(before you start, i DO NOT condone virus making in order to cause
havok around the world to millions of innocent people, mainly because i
have fallen prey to these losers and their creations myself). I have
aquired an old computer recently and have nothing to do with it as yet.
I am at university in my first year and learning java. I wish to
create something more than the crap we are learning in class, and would
like to test my creations on the old pc i have. I find java a useless
language in terms of its usefulness and creation of worthwhile
programs, whereas something like C++ or VB is good for windows
application creation. So what is the most common language used to
create viruses and what language is best for creating useful windows
applications?

Again, i would like to stress that i have no intent on using any such
programs as home-made viruses or damaging programs to cause damage or
inconvienience to other people. I only want to test such things on the
old pc i have, and to broaden my programming skills.
