That depends tremendously on your response to the above.
There is no single answer. In fact, for some of us, it might
be multiple computers.

The hard drive performance and amount of memory are probably
much more important than clock speed, when you have "best of
breed" processors in each, or at least comparable ones from
the same time period.

That doesn't make any sense at all. What would UNIX problems
have to do with it? It will run on any of the above.

Then tell us what kind of programming you want to do, and if
you will be willing to do it on any operating system, multiple
ones, or something specific.
