Wow. Hi, Sarge.

You know, Sarge, in the right light you look like Veronica Lake.

Seriously, let's see. Richard Heathfield goes for C++ builder, and
programming for Windows but bypassing .Net.

Right? Right. Right?

Well, the fact is that the original OP's application could be
programmed on an IBM 1401 mainframe given enough time and memory space.

The choice of software is relative to the capabilities and knowledge of
the developers. The very idea that choosing any one of the languages
and platforms will assure something called "productivity" is a
self-objectification.

Ah'm gonna take a langwidge pill cawlled C++ and transform mahself into
Glarp Kamunkle, super-developer.

The fact is that overcommittment to laissez-faire permits companies to
waste my time and yours with "a maze of twisty little passages, all
alike" while yawping at TWO levels of complete incoherence that a
software artifact is "more productive".

More? Productive?

Suppose "productive" has a meaning (but see below). OK, more than what?
Assembler language? Gawrsh.

The language reminds me of an old time cigarette advertisement.
"Winston tastes good like a cig cig cigarette should".

And "productive"? What's that? Lines of code per man hour? User
satisfaction? World peace?

The assault on language is real, but unnoticed.

Shadowy, twittering artifacts are substituted for human activity and
acquire a telos and a life of their own, while the posthumans waste my
time and their own by fashioning identities after TeeVee characters.

I suppose it's possible to program decent applications in C++ Builder.
Let's see, those would be COM applications, wouldn't they, and you will
have to trust a small shop in Redmond NOT to change the rules.
