LOL. Your post is well written, but I gotta reply to that. First of all,
I've been in enough legal discussions to know that legal language is utterly
lacking in rigor. There's no contract in the world that a better lawyer
can't undermine. There is no objective test for correctness of legalese that
is independent of the *opinions* of a judge/jury.
This is not the case for physics, or economics, where reality is the
objective test. No amount of wishful thinking is going to make the
geocentric theory fit the facts. Physical reality doesn't change over time,
neither does economic reality. But legal realities do.
Most economists, perhaps well over 95%, simply do not understand their own
profession, which is why they produce reversals and inconsistencies. 95%+ of
economists believe in the Free Lunch, which is the economic equivalent of
violating the conservation of mass/energy physical laws. In physics, if your
results violate the conservation of mass/energy, you know you screwed up. In
economics, economists believe their theories because they wish them to be
true.
The problem economists have is that it is very difficult to produce
controlled experiments, which is why they are able to wave their hands and
explain their failures as being the result of some unforeseen circumstance,
not as a problem with their theory.
