I've been moving my own Web-published stuff from PostScript to PDF,
in the assumption that the latter was more likely to be viewable to
people on all platforms. Going back to PostScript -- I'd think it
would be polite to tell people what to do if their computers don't
know what to do with a .ps file? Advice? I seem to remember that
there *are* free-of-charge PostScript viewers for most popular
platforms, but I suspect most Windows users won't have one installed
and so would need to be pointed to .... what?

I think it depends on what you are using to create pdfs. If you use
ps2pdf or pdflatex there shouldn't be any problem reading your pdfs
with any reader. The same goes for OpenOffice.org.

Thanks, but that really wasn't my point -- I was thinking more
along the lines of "how can I help make PostScript a more widely-used
format?"

Ok, I guess I missed the point. I know of only one viewer for Windows
(GSView). Who do you want to make it more popular for, everybody or
students and scientists?

Good question. Probably "students and scientists" covers almost all
people who would be likely to have an interest in what I Web-publish,
but if switching from PDF to PostScript is meant as a political
statement of sorts, then I guess the answer is "everybody".

Only one viewer for Windows, huh? Wow. Well, one is enough,
I guess, and that makes it easy ....
