Not a great headline. At first I thought with a shock, "Intellectual
minnows launch distributed attack on Knuth!" but it seems this is just
about sexing up Comp. Sci. in a last-ditch hope to keep "U.S.
technology supremacy" in the face of educated, market-priced
competition worldwide.
It's tempting to summarise. First story is about "scribbler" robots at
Georgia Tech. Since Logo, robots have been used to humanise(!)
programming, but usually to children. As for the rest, it's summed up
by "Schools across the country are taking steps to broaden the appeal
of the major."
Microsoft is throwing money in. As if they needed to hire. If they
stopped skimming graduates the supply would instantly increase 30% or
so.
Ho hum.
