Re: The software I wish I had

It would have to be really quite intelligent. For example my neighbour at
work asks me "how do I delete all my files?"; I answer "rm -f -r ~" and
then, with your software, I don't have any files any more!

Why do you think Picard always prefixed his requests with "Computer"?

And in the holodeck, somebody had to say "ARCH" firmly out loud,
with pause before and after, not as part of a connected phrase,
rather like the +++ used to get the attention of DC Hayes
compatible modems, to make the holodeck-control computer-panel
appear. (And it was fun when Data requested the computer to make a
simulated villian that would be a worthy opponent, and the computer
complied by creating an artificial intelligence which observed use
of the ARCH word and figured out the semantics and thereby gained
control over the computer that controlled the entire starship.)

"Computer: Tea, earl gray, hot."

Oh wow! That never meant anything special to me while watching the
TV series, because I don't normally drink tea (except for Chinese
green tea when I eat at a Chinese restaurant), and the only brand I
actually know is Lipton, and it's been so many years since
StarTrek-TNG was on that I had forgotten that name of a type of
tea. But when you mentionned it again the name finally connected in
my mind: A few months ago I got a free package of earl grey tea
("Forrelli" brand, is that a good brand??) from one of the local
food banks. Would anybody like to come visit me and drink a few
free cups of tea while listening to some of my favorite music with me?

As for the OP's question: I wish I had an oracle which would tell
me, for each spam that comes in (several hundred per day), the full
legal name and address of the actual spammer that sent it (not the
spam-friendly/tolerant ISP that hosts the spammer, since under
CAN-SPAM and California anti-spam law I can't sue the ISP, I can
sue only the actual spammer). Surely at least a few of the spams
I've gotten since the law went into effect (start of 2004) would be
from somebody in my local area, so I could sue in small claims
court and hire some homeless person for a few dollars to ride with
me on public transit to serve the court summons on the spammer, and
after the local cases settled I'd have enough money to start suing
people who are a little bit further away where I'd have to hire a
professional process server.
