We are looking for an online solution to share code, thoughts, files,
etc... Does anybody know of a website for this sort of thing?
I've already thought about using a basic forum, but those are not
private - others can read what's being said and done, and the project
is to remain private until completion.
They can be private if you like. All you have to do is make people log
on before you display the forum, and ensure that you only authenticate
registrations from people that are members of the project. (Therefore,
this bit should be a manual process if possible.)
Yes - they can be private, but free hosts do not allow this. Since we do
not have a server (this is more a hobby project), we can't use our own
hosting.
Just make it public, and make some of the groups in the forum private. For
the private groups the users would have to log in and be authed to use that
group.
forumforfree allows this although forumforfree can have connection issues
now and then (usually SQL errors, I think their DB is overloaded at times).
It's quite easy to set all this up, although it may take a while if you
do it yourself. (It took me about a day, starting from scratch, writing
all the code myself.)
You are very likely to be able to find off-the-Web forum software to do
it for you, though.
