Xlib and image from file (e.g. .bmp, .jpeg etc.)

Hi everybody, I don't know how I should translate .bmp (.jpeg, etc)
file to x-bitmap or x-pixmap, or how I should preper buffer for
XCreateImage function.
(sorry for my english, I'm still learning :-)
