It may be different from what you are guessing. Simply plug in your recorder between your machine and your monitor. Your PS3 example had a voiceover, but you may record the machine's audio directly, or plug in microphone(s) and record it all in one shot.

There must be other ways to do the same thing, depending on machine, OS, monitor cabling, etc.
