Reference manuals vs. tutorials

I've noticed that I'm starting to prefer reference manuals when learning new
languages over tutorials. It appears to me that the more experienced programmers
share this preference. Given the legendary terseness of the Unix manpages, I
suppose that programmers like concision. Most of the tutorials seem too basic
for my skills. I know what a variable is and I know what a loop is. Just give me
the diffs!
