VISITING ASSISTANT PROFESSOR POSITION AVAILABLE

Department of Computer Sciences
Purdue University

A postdoctoral position at the level of Visiting Assistant Professor
of Computer Science is anticipated starting September 2004 in the
Department of Computer Sciences at Purdue University, under the
supervision of Prof. Jeffrey S. Vitter. Purdue is an an equal
access/equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. The position is
for one year and can be extended for one or more additional years by
mutual consent.

Applicants must have clearly demonstrated experience and
skills in algorithms design and implementation. Familiarity with
external memory algorithms and indexing is a definite plus. Teaching
responsibilities are optional.

Problems of interest center around high-performance searching and
biological applications. They include development of efficient
methods for spatial databases, database optimization, compression, and
indexing, especially dealing with manipulating massive amounts of
data. Responsibilities include research on the projects, interaction
with agency scientists, and helping prepare contract, technical, and
other reports.
