He's just spent eight years writing his 1000 page blockbuster "The
Road to Reality" and appears to have lost "strong interest" in AI &
consciousness research (at least judged by him ignoring the subjects
in this book). Maybe he has taken on board Colin McGinn, realises the
mind-brain problem is intractable and is concentrating on the more
tractable area of quantum gravity :-) Anyway, the book has generated
lots of reviews in the UK quality press, most of them linked to from
