I'm making the assumption that this is an undergraduate class, which if it is,
I'm 99.9% sure this is an answer to this, in fact there may be many.
There is at least one polynomial algorithm that would be taught in a undergraduate class on algorithms for this problem.

If it wasn't homework i'd be happy to tell xeyder the algorithm and how to solve it , but since its homeworking doing so would defeat the purpose of the assignment. I'm sure if he goes and talks to his lecturer and tutors they will be happy to point him in the right direction but merely giving him the solution here doesn't help him.
