Sorting large number of records

I want to sort large number of records for which I plan to use
RWBTreeOnDisk. It is apparently because I think I cannot sort the data
using any in-memory class.

Are there any alternates available in STL or Tools++ that are more
efficient? Can I write my own implementation of RWBTreeOnDisk and make
it much more efficient?
