Example: I drew a logo dubbed "North Atlantic (Values) Enlightening
China" a few hours ago.
Original, large size (edited by me):

Desired, small size (stretched by computer):

Drawing a picture on a very small scale (e.g. a 48x48 icon), pixel by
pixel, seems to be a challenging task for humans. If you switch from
the pixel editing mode (e.g. a 500% zoom-in view) to the image's
original size (i.e. 100% zoom), you will probably find that your
drawing is unrealistic.
But if you first draw a much larger version of the picture (e.g. a
480x480 version), and then let the computer stretch it to the desired
size (48x48), you will find that the resulting small version looks
much better than if drawn manually by you.
This is like an NPC problem for humans in which it is very easy for
humans to "evaluate a solution" but very hard for humans to "construct
a solution".
