Absolutism is a characteristic feature of the 20's. This is why the
ranks of idealists, protestors, insurgents, etc. tend to be dominated
by those in their 20's. The mind doesn't stop maturing at 18 or 21.
There's another stage it goes through, rising up another level of
advancement, somewhere around 30-35 or so. Piaget was wrong. His model
is incomplete: it is missing that extra stage. Absolutism (maybe)
drops out by then. But the wisdom is latent in the US constitution
(e.g. trust nobody under 35 to be president).

The relevant question is not "is it too late?", but rather "is it too
soon?"
