Re: I have an unusual question

What size is a file minus the data stored inside it on a computer? I
tried another group, but they keep tossing out "create your own data
storage system" or "write your own OS in theory and plan it out"...
all of which is not quite so knowledgeable seeming as could be.

I am seeking information so I know what happens when I try to compress
20-30 files (a small game for instance) into one grand master file,
how much space is saved, and deciding for myself if this is worth my
time (for myself please, no one else decide for me, thats rude.)

This in not really the place. There is very little theory in your
question. To get a hard answer (rather than "it depends") you need to
(a) rephrase it more precisely, (b) say exactly what OSes and file
systems you are talking about, and (c) ask in a group dedicated to
such systems.

For example asking: "How can I find out how many file systems block
are being used to store the data in a particular file? I am using
Linux's ext3 file system." in comp.unix.programmer might work. Of
course, that might no be what you want to know, but I can guess that!

If you do (b) and (c), you might get help with (a).
