Post-doc position related to formal language theory/tree automata

Umeå University, Sweden, has announced a two-year postdoctoral
research position in the group Natural and Formal Language (NFL) at
the Department of Computing Science. Candidates for this position
should have an interest in formal language theory and its application
to problems in computational linguistics and language technology,
including techniques to process and map formally defined languages
such as XML, logic, etc. The exact wording of the announcement can be
found at

http://www.umu.se/umu/aktuellt/arkiv/lediga_tjanster/315-2172-89-08eng.html.

Umeå University offers a pleasant, cooperative and relatively
unconstrained environment in which you can pursue your own research
goals. We are particularly interested in applicants who have earned
their doctorates within the past five years who can convincingly
describe their own perspective and research program, and in doing so
relate it to the research interests described in the announcement. As
tree automata play a central role in our work, candidates with
research interests related to the theory or application of tree
automata have an advantage. However, we emphasize that researchers
with other interests in the broad area of natural and formal languages
are also welcome to apply.

The application deadline is August 15, 2008; see the announcement for
detailed information on how to apply. If you feel uncertain about
whether or not it would be meaningful for you to apply, please feel
free to contact Frank Drewes (drewes@xxxxxxxxx). He will also be glad
to answer any other kind of question regarding the announcement or the
application procedure.
