Java Data Objects - Evening Series 2004
http://www.bcs-oops.org.uk/jdoeveningseries.html
A series of six evening sessions given by leading figures in the JDO
field.
Java Data Objects (JDO) is an exciting new Java API for object persistence
(i.e. the storage and retrieval of data). JDO relieves the need for Java
developers to write complicated JDBC and SQL code. Indeed, with JDO's new
query language, JDOQL, which uses a Java-like syntax, developers do not
have to know SQL at all!
Applications written to use JDO for persistence are portable across any
data store for which a compliant JDO Implementation is available. This
allows applications to be ported across relational databases (since
there's no SQL code there is no dependence on a particular RDBMS vendor's
SQL dialect) as well as other data stores - including Object Databases!
JDO is appropriate for use both for simple Java applications which will
access data stores directly, and for J2EE application components which
will access data stores from within a J2EE Application Server.
