100% cpu usage when starting MySQL server

Hi,
I'm working on an program that starts the MySQL server. It works fine,
but for 4 or 5 seconds the cpu usage is 100%. During this time my mouse
is responding very slowly and I can't do anything else but wait until
the server is completely started. After that everything works fine. What
can I do about this?
