Generic code for inserting data to a BLOB column

Hello,
I want to insert value in the BLOB column of a table.right now i am
using Weblogic as my appserver and oracle as database, but in future
the application will be ported to websphere/sql-server or jBoss/db2.
i have to write a code or design in such a way that the portability
is acheived. somebody pl. help me
