article on how to post messages on usegroups, not on what "General
Error" might mean in the context of java.sql.

Yeah that was the document I meant to link to. Specifically, I wanted you to look at the section called "Repeat Error Messages Exactly". In that section, it shows you what a stack trace looks like, and how to interpret them to pinpoint the location of the bug.
