Documentation on JPA performance

Is there any documentation on the performance recommendations for
JPA?

Or for the reference implementation TopLink, is there any document
specifying how it works and optimizes processes?

For example, a document that answers when I perform a projection on
one Entity, how it works and why it works in that way?
