Our company is developing a large suite of java software that can be
comprised of different modules made up of multiple ears and wars and
is run under JBoss and we need a way to automatically update software
at hundreds of installation sites as well as allow multiple versions
to be installed simultaneously on a machine for development and
testing purposes and also provide dependency control and install
history. I come from a Linux background and using rpms to package
everything up and using autoupdate to keep things updated on customer
machines seemed to make sense at the time. But now we are talking
about also deploying and running in a windows environment so of course
rpm is not natively available and we are looking for alternatives that
work on both Linux and Windows platforms. I am wondering if there are
any existing java applications/projects that provide the same
autoupdating and dependency resolutions as rpm does, or how other
people are handling large scale Java software installs and automatic
maintenance updates.
Thanks in advance,
Leif
