Powerpoint style GUI in java

Hi,
I have been asked by the marketting department to write a demo display
for a distributed networking application. I need to show machines
connected by colourful arrows that show "flowing" data, and this has
to react to messages received from the network (change colors, show
statistics, etc).

Since this is a demo I do not have a lot of time to do it. The normal
swing components and layout do not seem to be sufficient for the job.
I though something like Powerpoint could easily display what I need,
but how do I interface it with Java? Is it at all possible (or
desirable)?

Is there a Java package that could help me with my display? I saw a
suggestion for java2D, but I must admit I did not have time to look
into it (i will do that soon). Does it have prepackaged components
like arrows?

Any other possible packages. Ideally the package would let me attach
fat arrows to components (visio style), put shadows behind components,
etc.

Thanks
JC
