Not all operating systems have the notation of drive letters. Have you thought about a cross-platform solution which will also work on such systems?

to the JComboBox as in windows Explorer?

Why do you think we all know what that particular thing, presumed somewhere in Windows Explorer, looks like?

Maybe you need a custom combobox renderer and then stuff the data from FileSystemView into it.
