Try it again using quotes around the file name.
Save As: "whatever.java"
Sometimes winblows tacks on an extra extension when you save files you
convert from .txt so what you think is whatever.java is really
whatever.java.txt.
I don't know why it does that. Using quotes in the Save As screen avoids
it.
Or you can just rename the file whatever.java whenever you wish just by
using right click --> rename

That's what it sounds like. Turn off the hide file extensions option
too, that'll help pick out when winblows does that.
