Greetings,

I have a very old laptop (486 - 4mb ram) that I want to write simple java programs on. Is there any version of Java for Dos still out there?

You might be able to run Linux on that machine, it's tricky, and you need to use non-graphical installers, but you could easily run java from that. Just make sure that you use as little boot loading stuff, and use a small kernel. There used to be a small memory HOWTO.
