Greetings,
I have a very old laptop (486 - 4mb ram) that I want to write simple java programs on. Is there any version of Java for Dos still out there?
Thanks
You could install an older JDK from <http://java.sun.com/products/archive/>.
I'm assuming that your laptop has Win95/98 (I can't imagine a DOS-only laptop). The Windows installer requires a graphical OS.
For the Windows version of J2SDK 1.2.2 it's recommended to have at least 32Mb. See <http://java.sun.com/products/archive/j2se/1.2.2_017/README.html#system>.
For JDK 1.1.8 this maybe less, but I couldn't find any info on this.
If you want to compile/run commandline progs only, 4Mb might be sufficient (but only just).
